DOG I AM

I trot the streets with my head held high

Unafraid to look in anyone's eye

I wear my mug like the butcher's ham

And leave my mark like the dog I am

I once roamed far for the seer's sight

She said, "Good news but first a fight.

Pots of gold and a lassie's hand."

I barked and wagged like the dog I am

One night we played on the royal barge

Had to use thin notes the crowd was so large

I just couldn't wait for the royal command

So I took a high solo like the dog I am

Whilst taking bows before the stately corps

I spied a glimmer by the treasury door

I leapt from the stage and cornered a man

I collared and bit him like the dog I am

I'd caught a thief with the royal horde

So I petitioned the king for my just reward

When he offered me his sole daughter's hand

I considered it like the dog I am

She was young and fine as the day is warm

With pool green eyes and a perfect form

The pick of the litter in all the land

So I plucked her like the dog I am

I stole her heart, nibbled the queen's cheese

Took a noble title, bought a manor with trees

Like a bear with honey and a wolf with lamb

I savor it all like the dog I am

Now, I've never turned my tail on fate

I can say that from my country estate

And when Big Dog barks from the happy land

I'll take His paw like the dog I am

And let me tell you this is one big production to pack for four Dogs and one Mummy!!!

Dear Fans,

I am overwhelmed with excitement! Mommy wants me to seek fame and fortune and be the next "Lassie" or "My Friend Flicka"! So, I got this gig to do a photo shoot in Monrovia Animal Clinic for a print ad for Wells Fargo to talk about their friendly loans to small businesses! My aunt Deborah is coming so it should be fun! I also get a cool $200.00 just for sitting in the Vet's lap and smiling pretty!
I have been taking good care of myself, laying low and not playing to hard with my girlfriend Rosie (another Frenchie) as I am trying to keep my face nice and smooth and sometimes she is a bit ardent and kisses me too hard and leaves marks! I must remember to ask mommy to insure my face soon!
I"m hoping this will launch my career and truly be in national commercials and movies. It's been a bit hot in Marina del Rey, so I pushed mommy to walk with me, but then pooped out and turned on my heel and went back towards the restaurants that had 25 Cent bones for me! She was a bit annoyed with me, so today she went to the Marina by herself and walked for an hour at a fast clip! She is getting in great shape and eating more vegetables and lighter meals!
Anyways, wish me luck and onwards and upwards until then.

His owner had just come in to do some quick paperwork and had asked the receptionist to watch Rocky for a few minutes. Danielle put him in her lap, but Rocky was having “none of this”! He jumped on the front desk to see how it feels to be running the company for the day! Rocky, who accompanies Ilisa all over West LA, is her “silent partner” but does help promote and market her real estate business. He has become well known all over Marina Del Rey and the Westside as a happy go lucky working dog.

Rocky Infectious Smile on Animal Planet WebSite!

HI Gang!

I"m so excited! My photo of my major smile on the sexy bedspread which is like a leopard print and I"m lounging on it, made "Best Smile" on the Animal Planet web site for my "15 minutes of Wall of Fame". Over 160 people have viewed it so far and loved it. Mommy sent it to all her friends.
Also, when we went to Hollywood Paws Saturday night to see the dog movie that one of the animals, Peanuts had made, mommy was pleasantly shocked that a huge poster of Zac Efron and myself in two poses (one with sunglasses) was featured and blown up for Entertainment Weekly. It was a lovel display for the new students to see what our animals do at Hollywood Paws.
Today I played with Rosie and had alot of fun! She's a bit too agressive and feisty for me, but I kind of play the submissive "lover" with her and get on my back and kick up my heels! I let her dominate me...so partially this is my fault. Anyways, we walked a bit last night also, so I think today I will just snooze! Frenchies don't "over do it" and I must maintain my beauty rest.

WHY IT IS IMPORANT TO START GROOMING AS SOON AS YOU GET YOUR DOG OR NEW PUPPY

As with anything else with a new puppy or dog, if they are young enough to be imprinted or they are the age of needing training, grooming is a part of your everyday puppy’s life. It is important for them stand calmly and relaxed for bathing, brushing their hair, cleaning ears, eyes, feet, and even around the tail. The more you do this at a younger age, the more likely your puppy will come to enjoy this time as bonding time and not an experience he has to run from, because of the water or brush. A good tip is for two to three minutes, two or three times a day, run your hands over his entire body with a brush, practice opening his mouth, wiping over his eyes and wiping in his ears, and even cleaning his rear end and tail. Remember, positive reinforcement is what is going to work here, not negative. If in the beginning he doesn’t like the brush on his fur, just simply put the brush down, let him relax and come back with a softer brush to try again. Again, having a treat as a reward will assist in the process.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN POWDER SHAMPOO for DOGS

1/2 cup cornstarch

2 tbsp. arrowroot powder

2 tbsp. baking soda

½ cup cornmeal

1/4 cup rice flour

1/2 to 1 cup oatmeal ( I like to blend my oatmeal on its own first to ensure we get a nice uniform mixture and not just dry oatmeal this is great for soothing skin.)

Dry Shampoo and refresher powder

15 drops citronella

10 drops lemon

10 drops rosemary

20 drops tee tree

8 drops Lavender

The trick with making this powder is to sift all your ingredients and then once blended you need to let it sit for 24 hr. till you can sift again then fill up a shaker bottle to use as a powder container. Look for old glass shakers at flea markets

Why does Dry Pet Shampoo works? Simple- by Rubbing the powder deep into your pet’s fur. The granules bind to the dirt, oil and odor which can then be easily brushed out. Dry Shampoo does not leave behind any sticky residue and thus prevents quick re-soiling.

Combine ingredients in a blender if you have one if not I like to use a hand mixing style of bottle like the ones used to mix powder drinks just do not add liquid. Make sure you have a tight fitting lid. Shake or blend vigorously to ensure all your ingredients are well mixed. Brush your dog thoroughly with a natural bristle brush to remove any loose dirt.

Sprinkle Dry pet shampoo uniformly on a small area of your pet. Rub it in with a clean dry brush, warm towel or your fingers in slow, circular movements. Then proceed to the next area. BE SURE TO KEEP OUT OF EYES & EARS!

Leave for 20 minutes. Allow 50 minutes in the case of heavy odor. Should the powder fall into your carpet then simply vacuum afterwards it will also leave a fresh smell on your carpet?

Then Brush your dog thoroughly with a natural bristle brush to remove powder with the dirt and dander is has collected.

Warning: Suitable for all pets. Always be sure to test a small area for reactions. Use contents within a short time. This recipe produces enough Dry Shampoo for 1 medium sized dog.

Combine ingredients in a glass container with tight fitting lid. Shake vigorously to blend scent into powder. Follow above directions.

Make sure you purchase a non-shatter style glass container that you are able to place a shaker top when ready to use.

The day you come home with your new puppy, no matter the age or sex, you want to start training right away. Of course the first thing that comes into mind is house breaking, this is also a good time to place a leash and collar and let them drag it around to have them get used to it. Starting free calls when they are eager to come to you is a great early training tip, be sure to use a little treat when he comes, place them on the ground, walk away, call them with their name and when they come, give them a treat. If you are going to be using the clicker training method, start using the clicker as soon as possible with the treat, they will begin to understand simple commands such as stay and sit down. When you teach a puppy from 7-12 weeks of age, they never forget these simple commands. Later on in training, you can build on this as early training experience.

This virus comes out of the blue and they don't know how it is spreading. Our dog had not been to the park of the vet in some time, so it is a mystery how it began. It is a frightening virus because there is a ton of internal blood leakage out of the the anus -- much more than from a burst hemorrhoid or something of the like.

If you get any strange symptoms, know what a healthy dog’s vital statistics should be. This is something you really must know for many reasons. For example as I learned just this past Friday April 8, 2011 with my dog "Little Man", these basic facts will help you know immediately the seriousness (OR NOT) of the problem you are dealing with. I have listed vital statistics below.

The Symptoms of the Strange New Virus That is a KILLER

I was first alerted to my "Little Man" not feeling well by coming home to a room full of Vomit and Blood everywhere but where did that come from? The vomit was basically clear so the blood was not coming from his front end and that left only one area. Yes the behind!

Now I noticed Little Man (A Chihuahua at 5.9 pounds) very cold, his gums were white, and we gave him fluids some meds to see what would happen within four hours. But the blood was beginning now projectiling out every time he went to drink wanted. Out came blood at this point at alarming amounts.

We rushed to our vet's office and within one hour they came to tell me they have done all they could for my little man with anti-diarrhea and anti-vomit medication. I learned that in the last eight days six other much bigger dogs had come in with this very new virus not known to our vet. They do not have anything they can do yet but suggesting forcing fluids to fight dehydration, your biggest enemy. To give fluids we were now giving Little man water by a syringe every hour and anti-vomit medicine and of course anti diarrhea medicine they also told me to bring him home if anyone was going to bring this small fighter back from the brink of death door that it would be his family!!

What was so frightening is they told me “Wendy this is a very new virus which we have not even named as of today.” It has now been 36 hours and we now have zero blood for the last 24 hours but he will not take any food or water on his own. Dogs can live without food but I am giving him a syrup of vitamins and other fatty acids he needs to live by a syringe every three hours and giving him water also by a syringe every one hour. At the hospital they gave him fluids under his skin and that only made him colder yet helped to also save his life at eight years old. I am a fighter along with my Little man!

I am posting this blog to help others to learn the early symptoms of this new virus right away so that we all may have a fighting chance to save our dog’s lives

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW - BUY A THERMOMETER BELOW

Dogs’ Vital Statistics:

Take your dog's temperature under normal conditions to get a baseline temperature for comparison, in case they get sick or get disabled.

Pulse and Heart Rate, Normal resting rates:

Small dogs: 90-120 bpm (beats per minute)
Medium dogs 70-110 bpm
Large dogs: 60-90 bpm

Pulse should be strong, regular and easy to locate in their arms, neck or rest your ear right on the heart if you must.

Thermometers for puts are used anally and are available everywhere and are not expensive. the dog doesn't even feel it. A thermometer can save you costly trips to the vet, or get you to the vet faster by helping you know there is a real problem. Normal temperature for dogs ranges from: 98 to 102.5 degrees. Thermometer should be almost clean when removed. Abnormalities are indicated by blood, diarrhea, or black, tarry stool.

If you have to evacuate from your home with your dog, will you know what to do? Do you have an evacuation plan?
With what has happened in japan in the last five days I have received more email and personal phone calls with Pet Loving people needing to know what to do if we have an emergency, earthquake or major Fire & Floods! I too have gone to look at my disaster kit and found it to be in need of new fresh supplies , batters and other things which should be up dated at least once a year. I have let life happen and keep saying I will fix this next weekend! Next weekend is here and God Bless the people of japan, if ever there was a Country well prepared it is the Japanese they had learned a lot from the 1995 quake in Kobe This is our walkup call big time and if you are like me on a very tight budget then we must be creative to be sure we are including everything we will need to survive at least two weeks on our own. With our pets in tow I learned from the 1994 Quake here in Los Angeles (Northridge to be exact) my dogs were well out of the bedroom in a safe place all three of them! By the time my Husband had gotten me out from where the things fell in our bedroom we ran to find our dogs to our amazement they were safe under the huge farm table in the living room even though the huge sliding glass doors shattered all of them were safe from any harm. What I learned is our Pets are pretty smart and have the advantage of knowing something's before us humans.
Cappy and The Gang wanted to take this time to talk about a topic that they believe we all may have talked about in the past, but think this is so important; we should update this and go over how and why we need to be prepared all the time for an emergency evacuation with our pets always talk about the important of having a first aid kit in your home and car. It is also a good idea of you are a camper or go boating to have a first aid kit in the camper and on the boat, which should also have a “doggie” life vest if Fido goes boating with you. When it comes to evacuate there are different things you will need to take with you, which is why a plan is so very important, because God forbid if your home is damaged you could lose some very important papers you many never be able to get back. For example you may not be able to recover your dog's registration papers if you have an AKC registered dog. The same can be true if you adopted your dog, you may not be able to get papers replaced from the ASPCA or a place you can retrieve the information back from. Here is what you need to do when it is calm, and there is not an emergency going on, to always be prepared. If you live as I do in the earthquake and fire country then you want to have an earthquake box filled and ready to be used at a moment's notice. Remember to always have plenty of food and water, not only for you but for Fido also as a dog can go two weeks with little to no food but they cannot go for more than twenty-four hours without water, as they will die. So water is very, very important to have stored, and always have extra water to any vehicles you are driving. Another important item to always have copies of is your dog's shot records. If you have to evacuate and travel to another place due to a hurricane or flood, and then they will ask for a health certificate for your dog. You may not have that as they are usually only good for thirty days. However, a current shot record will help a new vet know exactly what inoculations your dog has had, and what they may need to get to another place or stay in a kennel if the emergency calls for that.

HERE IS WHAT TO HAVE READY IN CASE YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR HOME

Pictures – this is something you cannot replace for you, your family and for Fido. So if you need to evacuate it is a good idea to try to keep your photo albums in one place; if you need to go, you can grab all of them place them in a box and off you go with your memories and your loved ones with you. The material things can always be replaced, but the things you cannot replace; these are what you need to be known: where they are and are able to get them packed quickly. Shots records Leashes collars with up-to-date tags Extra stainless steel bowls food and water Towels for the car Dog bed Food – Kibble and canned enough for two weeks is what the Red Cross recommends to keep on hand. They also recommend rotating the food and water every year to make sure it stays fresh and is still usable. It is a good idea to always keep your car with if not a full tank of gas, at least half a tank. I play this game with myself especially because gas is so very expensive I cannot always afford to fill my car. I fill up my car to full then when I get to the half tank I let myself know we are almost out of gas and then if I can only do $15 dollars on that day I still am more on the full side versus being on the empty side, if we have to drive and leave I know I have enough gas to get a good 200 miles away until I have to stop for fuel. Try this game I can promise you that it will come handy for you even if you never have to evacuate. You will never run out of gas at the wrong time and if you are a woman driving at night alone, again this is just a great safety measure to remember. Another good idea is to have a plan practice fire drills with your family and be ready if it is just you and your dog/dogs like it is with me. We have a plan and we practice this once a month, not to make some big deal but once a month I make sure I know where everything important is and I make sure when I call the boys they come right away! This is on-going to training and dogs love to keep their minds active as well as their bodies. So what I do practice a game with the boys, as each dog is well-trained alone. It is when all three get on leashes that I need them to be calm and not going wild with excitement, because they think they are off to the beach, or swimming, to a pool or park. I need them to be trained and calm always so we practice getting all our leashes on and staying calm. Sometimes we do not go out, sometimes we do; the simple fact is now the boys are trained to know when I call for a walk or anything that involves getting ready to go out with leashes on they have learned to all sit and wait their turn to have their leashes put on. If they get all hyper we start all over again until all four of us get it right. This is why I say practice this is a training tool that I promise you will come in very handy. You may say my dog heels beautiful or my dog is calm, when I say let’s go for a walk; but if you know your dog can easily get nervous or excited then you want to start to train him/her to be calm when there comes a time to go out or into the car. This way if of an emergency you will always have full control of Fido and the, both of you can get into the car calmly and move to a safe area never having to worry about the safety of your dog. Trust me; my boys can be a wild PACK. Yes I said pack, this is what it is called when you own more than one dog and with three dogs I do have a pack and if one dog get excited then all three start so I must be the leader of my pack, and I must practice all the time to make sure my pack is listening and ready to go. I do have a release word for the boys it is “OK”, and when they all hear the release word in the happy that the boys tone I use, then and only then do they know “OK it time to play and we are released from the working mind set we are in at that time”. This is one of the best tools you can teach, to have ready if you do have to ever leave your home in an emergency. I hope you never have to evacuate, but if you do the best plan is to be ready and to always remember no matter how prepared we sometimes are, things can and will go wrong, so by not stressing out too much, the best one can do is to try to be prepared and have a sense of humor. As they say “We make plans and then God breaks them”. If that is the case, know you have trained your dog and you have practice for an emergency. No matter what you can take with you or have to leave behind, what you what is known you both are ready and well trained. See training never ends, it just becomes different and you can always find a new idea to train your dog. You can never have too many tools and you can never train your dog too much. Remember, just never do it for more than a few minutes a few times a day. Do not try to train your dog in one day with an eight hour session, as this will not work for either of you. Start off with five minutes a day, work it up to ten minutes a day and then maybe add another session so you have training time twice a day with your dog, but please, as with everything else go slowly and know you are both learning to be prepared.

If you have a small to medium size dog be sure to have a crate or travel bag ready as they will help to keep your pet safe , know where they will be safe in the middle of trying to get everyone to a safe place. Remember if you have to go to a shelter your pet will need to have a safe place to live.

If you want to build your own First- Aid kit

HERE IS A LIST OF SUPPLIES

1. Adhesive tape (several widths is a good idea) 2. Your pet's medication if they take any. You want to have at least two weeks extra, if of emergency. 3. Scissors

4. Cotton Balls

5. Gauze pads & squares

6. Disinfectant (like Hydrogen Peroxide)

7. Rope (for an emergency if you have to tie up your pet) 8. Strips of cotton to stop bleeding

9. Tweezers (Flat slant tip, instead of rounded variety) 10. Neosporin, Bacitracin or any antibiotic ointment 11. Ice packs

12. Thermometer, rectal

13. Bottle water

14. Several sheets or one large towel

15. A sheet with the poison hotline phone number 16. A sheet with your vet's phone numbers (both the regular office, & emergency number) 17. Scissors

18. Sewing needle, sterile if possible (to remove splinters and tick heads) 19. Turkey baster or bulb syringe (for flushing wounds and administering medications) 20. Eyedropper

21. Rubber gloves

22. Nail clippers

23. Styptic powder or styptic pencil (to stop bleeding of torn toenails, etc.) 24. Comb

25. Brush

26. Disposable safety razor (for shaving fur from around a wound) 27. Towels (at least two, bath towel size is good) 28. Paper towels

29. Blanket (a compact thermal blanket works well; uses include keeping an injured animal from going into shock.) 30. Bandana &/or nylon stocking (many uses, including and muzzling or securing a torn earflap. 31. Strips of cloth

32. Dog booties or little sock (to cover wounded paws or to protect paws, so you won't need to treat) 33. Flashlight

34. Matches (sterilizes needle for sliver removal 35. Sterile gauze pads (3" x 3" size)

36. Roll gauze (for bandaging, stabilizing joints, making a muzzle) 37. Adhesive first aids tape (in both narrow and wide widths) 38. Roll of cotton

39. Bandages (including self-clinging or Vet Wrap, and waterproof types) 40. Anti-bacterial wipes or pads

41. Q-Tips

42. Hot/Cold pack

43. Ice pack

44. Hydrogen Peroxide 3% UPS (to induce vomiting and to use on infected wounds; check the expiration date from time to time and keep only fresh solution in your kit) 45. Begin charcoal tablets (effective in absorbing many toxins) 46. Syrup of Ipecac (to induce vomiting)

47. Betadine solution (a type of antiseptic iodine medication for wounds to deter infection) 48. Rubbing alcohol (apply on skin, as a body cooling agent to aid heat stroke or fever; helps break down oils; and acts as a drying agent between toes and skin folds. However do not use on wounds, as it can damage the skin and is not an appropriate antiseptic. 49. Bag Balm (especially useful for treating paw pads) 50. Petroleum jellies (helpful aid for taking temperature) 51. Sterile saline eyes solution (to flush out eye contaminants and wounds) 52. Artificial tear gels (to lubricate eyes after flushing) 53. Eye ointment without cortisone

54. Epsom salts (mix 2 tsp. In 2 cups of warm water for drawing out infection and bathing itchy paws and skin 55. Baking soda (good for soothing skin conditions) 56. Milk of Magnesia (for stomach upset and certain types of poison ingestion) 57. Pepto-Bismol (for stomach upset and some types of poison ingestion; do not give to cats) 58. Kaopectate (OK for cats and dogs)

59. Benadryl (for bug bites and stings)

60. Gentle pet sedative such as Rescue Remedy (available at health food and some pet supply stores) 61. Aspirin (for dogs only, DO NOT USE acetaminophen or ibuprofen.) Do not give aspirin to cats; since aspirin and other pain relievers can be toxic to any pet; consult your veterinarian and first aid books. 62. Can of soft pet food (can help reduce the effect of a poisoning?) 63. Mild grease-cutting dishwashing liquid, such as Dawn® (to clean contaminated skin or sticky substances) 64. Plastic Baggies

65. Muzzle (an injured or scared animal may try to bite) 66. Nylon leashes

67. Pet crate or carrier (This is a safe, calming place for your pet and a safe way to transport them.) 68. Instructions for how to perform CPR

69. Fact sheets describing heat stroke and symptoms

The following items are good things to have in your car, if of emergency: 1. Bottle water

2. Bowl or other container to use for water 3. Spare leash

It is also important to know if you have poisonous plants in or outside your home. The following is a partial of plants that are toxic to pets: Cactus

Mistletoe

Tobacco

Poinsettia

Azalea bush

Daffodil flowers and buds

Wild mushrooms

DOGS

Vital Statistics:

Take your dog's temperature under normal conditions to get a baseline temperature for comparison, if they get sick or become injured.

Pulse and Heart Rate, Normal resting rates:

Small dogs: 90-120 bpm

Medium dogs: 70-110 bpm

Large dogs: 60-90 bpm

Pulse should be strong, regular and easy to locate.

Temperature: Take your dog's temperature under normal conditions to get a baseline temperature for comparison, if they get sick or become injured.

Normal temperature for dogs ranges from: 98 to 102.5 degrees. Thermometer should be almost clean when removed. Blood showed abnormalities, diarrhea, or black, tarry stool.

If You Want To Buy A First - Aid Kit

If someone is taking care of your pet while your away: show them where you keep the first aid kit and vet records, your vet and emergency animal hospital info, how to contact you, and the name and phone number of these friends or relative if you are unavailable. In addition, let your vet know in advance who you have authorized to take your pet to the vet in your absence, and that you will pay for any emergency visit.

Those who have faced emergencies can tell you it is essential to get your first aid kit together and get familiar with first aid measures BEFORE you are confronted with an accident, emergency or sudden illness. Many situations require fast and correct action to prevent further injury, infection or death. So assemble a first aid kit now, so that you'll be ready when your pet (or a human) needs immediate help.

At 6:45 PM at his Papa’s Home in Los Angeles, CA Just where he wanted to be! On his terms – When Tom went out to make a few supplies for himself and Senny he arrived back home talking all the way to his Best Friend when he heard no thumping of Senny’s gigantic tail he began to hear his own heart say NO NO please God no! It had only been 15 minutes when he asked if Senny wanted anything from their favorite store. Only to arrive home to discover that Senny had quietly slipped away from all of us, who so dearly Loved him. I firmly believe in my heart that our Governor came down to be with Senny in his last minutes here on earth to help guide him gently into heaven and help him achieve his now golden wings so that he may continue to stay with Tommy on his Papa’s shoulders just as Governor has done with me for the last few years. They both have Loved us more than we shall ever be able to communicate yet for all Lovers out there we know you to, share this incredible bond with us that is just a once in a lifetime experience we never know when it will hit or what pet it will happen with but I do Pray for all Animal Lovers to have that relationship if not with all your Animals Then I do hope at least just once because Tommy and myself were so blessed to meet and spend time with Governor & Senator Rees May they both rest in peace!

Thank You Boys- for no one will hold the title “ the Boys”

SURF DOG RICOCHET SURFS TANDEM WITH SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS AT
BEST DAY FOUNDATION'S "BEST DAY AT THE BEACH" EVENT! DANA POINT NOVEMBER 13TH & 14TH!

DANA POINT, CA, November 10, 2010... Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog who surfs for fun, wins dog surfing contests, and most notably surfs tandem with disabled adaptive surfers while raising funds and awareness for human/animal causes will be at the Best Day Foundation's "Day at the Beach" event at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point on November 13th & 14th.

Best Day Foundation, which helps kids with special needs build confidence and self esteem through safe, fun-filled adventure activities, will be hosting two half-day events which include surfing, bodyboarding and kayaking. The "Best Day at the Beach" event is free for kids with special needs including Autism, Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Blindness, Cancer, Spinal Cord injuries, and other physical and developmental challenges.

When Max Montgomery, Best Day Co-Founder and Executive Director heard that Ricochet surfs tandem with disabled kids, he invited her to participate. "We're stoked to see Ricochet surf at Doheny State Beach after watching her all over the internet. The kids are thrilled to meet Ricochet, and we're grateful to her for helping bring more awareness to Best Day's first events in Orange County."

Ricochet will be surfing with Ian McFarland, a six year old boy who suffered a brain injury in a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of his parents. Ian used to surf with his father, but was fearful of getting back on a board after the accident. That all changed when he surfed with Ricochet the first time. His fears were replaced with excitement, and now Ian says "I want to wipe out with Ricochet!" See for your self!... .

Patrick Ivison, a 16 year old quadriplegic surfer, the first to ever surf tandem with Ricochet will also be hitting the waves with her on a tandem surfboard generously provided by Surftech Surfboards. In addition, Ricochet will surf solo as a demonstration to further promote confidence building... "if a dog can do it, so can you!" She will offer encouragement, and help kids who show any apprehension of getting on a board. She will be busy with meet & greets, and of course offer lots of cuddling on the beach too!

Trained volunteers are paired with each kid, and they begin their Best Day with fun exercises before hitting the water. The safe, fun activities are designed to expand their potential, create excitement, and connect them with new friends. After an exciting day at the beach and a warm lunch, each participant is individually honored for their achievements during an award ceremony. All the children are gold medal winners at Best Day's events!

Dear Lord Captain Bows Rees, Little Man and Sammy:

My name is Rowdy Cowgirl and I am an American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier. Please do not believe everything you read about me. I know I am a big, strong dog, but I would like to be your friend. Should you chance to meet a pit bull on your voyage around the world, perhaps their mom and dad can introduce you properly. We pit bulls like a proper introduction. Our mom and dad walk us with a leash and we enjoy going on leashed walks with new friends and their parents.

My mom, has written a wonderful new book about her experiences rescuing pit bulls. It's called Pit Bull Nation. There are lots of interesting stories and tips in the book, not just for pit bulls, but for all animals. My mom has a sanctuary with lots of birds, cats and other dogs.

I hope if you meet a pit bull in your travels, you might learn something new and fun. We all love to have fun.

When My Big Brother Governor Lent his Paw to Mum

Sometimes You Just Have to Step Up and Pass It Forward

Every now and again we are blessed by the presence of something greater than ourselves and we are then reminded that this world is so much bigger than just our four walls. I met Governor on a Saturday Morning in Santa Fe, New Mexico through my Mother-in-law at the time. She had a sense that my first dog, Webster, was going to pass away and she did not want me to be without a dog. It was her belief that I needed a dog no matter what, so she took me to meet my first litter of Black Labs. She had her eyes on Governor and for me she had picked Luke-- but as life and luck would have it Luke went over to her and Gov. came running to me as though we had known each other our whole life. I asked for twenty four hours to think this over it was a huge decision for me. I did not want to believe Webster's life was coming to an end, yet deep inside I, too, knew his time was near. At 5:00 am on Sunday morning I slipped into my Mother in-law’s bedroom to wake her up and let her know I could no longer sleep and could we go get our puppies?

Thank God she is a light sleeper and as huge a dog lover as I am, because she was up in a flash and by 6am we were out the door and on the road for the 2 hour drive back to the breeder to pick up our new puppies. She had left a note for my then husband and father-in-law to tell them where we had gone, and I’m sure between the both of them they were unable to make their own coffee that morning. I will never forget the minute we drove up that Sunday, as there was Governor sitting in the bay window at 7 1/2 weeks old -- just by himself, my little old man; as though he knew I was coming. The breeder later told my mother-in-law that the entire night the puppy for the first time in his whole life had cried the night long. She became as worried as it was so out of the ordinary that she had contemplated calling the vet, and just did not know what was wrong with the puppy. So she thought to at least wait until later that morning to ring her vet, then suddenly we drove into her driveway. What I did not know is that Governor had gone wild with joy and went from crying to whining to a small bark which someday would grow into his most wonderful, magnificent, loud, welcome home BARK. Years later that sound would be my battle cry, signaling it was time to fight as I returned home every Thursday morning after another round of chemotherapy – he knew. It was his way of saying “I am here, waiting for you, and you don’t have to fight it all alone, no matter what”. I can recall his beautiful bark eight years after he’s gone, at this point. We were just the perfect match. Governor was my once in a life-time, my Kentucky derby runner, my Academy Award, my one soul mate, my best friend but most of all, Governor -- he saved my LIFE!!

Governor was not a therapy dog; he was the most beautiful black lab I have known in all my 48 years of animal-loving life. He was a show dog, really. He was an English Lab, not an American Lab. You can immediately tell the difference as the English Labs have thicker, broader bodies than American Labs, and that thick body is well-balanced by a head that is a little bigger-- to support a great square muzzle (as opposed to the American Labs with a smaller, more pointed noses). Both can be beautiful, but as I have said, Governor was truly amazing. My mother-in-law has an eye for great beauty, and to this day she has a sixth sense about many things. When it comes to animals, this is a place she and I could always meet without any friction, no matter how bad the marriage was or whatever other tension may have existed between our families. Though many years have passed since we have even spoken to each other now, I know my battle for life could never have been waged with such confidence were it not for both her and my Governor, for I loved them both so very much. Not a day goes by that I do not pray for them and tell them both how much I so love them unconditionally-- as I know they loved me.

We never know what the future really holds for us. How Momma Nan knew I needed Governor as much as I did I shall never know, but I do know I was able to return the life-saving favor to her by giving up one of our other dogs to my ex-husband Tom, her son, in his time of need.

After Governor, our next Labrador, Senator, came to us quite by accident. I know –the name thing can only be explained because my father was into politics, as it were. It became a bit of a joke, however, as we named our next dog Captain. To get the joke, you must be able to picture giving a tiny, spindly, little 3 lb. teacup terrier named “Captain” a command while in the presence of two giant 90 lb. Labs. “Captain, you SIT!” –but I digress.

My Grandfather had lost his yellow Lab Oscar, who was his Love of life at 86 years of age, and he just could not take the loss of this dog. My Grandfather had owned dogs and horses my entire life -- which is how my love affair with these two animals began. My Grandmother had asked me to take them to find another lab, which I did with my husband. We all four went to meet a local breeder here in Los Angeles, CA. This was not nearly as fancy a breeder as where Governor was from, but I knew Gov. would be happy to have a pal -- if only for a short while during which time I would house-train him and give him some manners. My Grandfather fell for a little chocolate lab puppy, which we ended up getting for him. I cannot remember the name he was originally given, but I do remember about 2 months later how much time I spent daily crate training, leash training, and schooling this dog. It struck me one day that the only people totally bonding with the dog seemed to be Tommy and Governor. I wasn’t really head over heels about this lab, but slowly and surely he was becoming part of the family.

As fate would have it, at about that time they discovered my Grandfather had a type of Alzheimer’s which advanced quickly. This was bad news for the dog, as my Grandmother did not want the long-term responsibility. Welcome to the Rees family, Senator!

Oh, did my husband fall in love with this dog. He felt badly for him a little, because I guess I was so outwardly proud of Governor, and quite frankly as a puppy Senator was just plain goofy. But WOW --that first day at the beach, let me just tell you the instinct to swim and retrieve in Labs is incredible to see – at any age. I gave Governor his release word and in our family we have a few common words. To get into work mode it’s “let’s go” and “play time” means you are off-duty or out of frame, Go Be a Dog! (For us riders off lead, out in the pasture -- go run wild -- it is safe and fun!). Well I guess Tommy just could not hold onto a surf board, a ball, drinks and Senny because the next thing I see is a huge 6 month old chocolate Hershey kiss® stumbling over his own paws as he ran straight for the ocean (never as graceful as governor, but he sure could out-nose Gov., with his huge brown snout – too big for him as a puppy). As Governor is riding his first wave and I am laughing, I see “the big kiss” going and I start yelling “wait” (which means stop no matter what in our home) but the water and Governor were just too much as he went from sand to water… and there’s Tommy running so fast after the puppy I wanted to clock them both.

Next what happened was so amazing I was crying with joy so hard I only have my memories and wish we owned a camera that day. Governor swam to Senator and grabbed his collar and held him up until Tommy got to them both with the surfboard. They all three spent the next hour surfing, riding waves and having so much fun I almost felt jealous. But my Governor would every now and then run out just to give me a big, wet lick and say “Hey Mom, it is OK -- I am with Dad". We were a family that day and it was great. I guess that is what memories are for. That day is a lifetime of memories’.

We had boats in our life back then, and “the boys” as they were known loved the boat, or anything to do with balls. Retrieving and water made them so happy they excelled at all schooling, and we often thought about entering Senny into a scent type of class he was that good.

Again life happened. I became pregnant with twins and then a few months later miscarried only to find out I had breast cancer. Anger took me over. Tommy went to hide from my anger -- I shut him out, and I shut the whole world out. I became bitter, mean, ugly -- the person I never wanted to be, but that is who I became.

I still had to live. For some reason God would not let me die, and the best friend I had was my dog Governor. He stayed with me by my side for everything. He was my wall when I was throwing up so hard, the dog just stood like a brick wall and when I wanted to fall over he brought me down gently. When I cried, I cried into him. He dried every single tear, he licked every wound till I healed, and he made sure I ate. I had to fight for life and he made me. I wanted to die and my dog made me fight for life. How a dog could do this I don’t know, but he did and I am here today to tell you -- and he is not. Four years later after I was told I was in remission. Governor on March 3, 2004 at 4 pm passed away in mine and Tommy’s arms. He passed away at the young age of eight years old of a massive brain tumor. His brother Luke lived a full life to sixteen years old as did the rest of the litter. We believe that Governor took my cancer away. He could not save my marriage but he sure did save my life.

It was four years later after Governor’s passing that Senny would play such a huge role in mine and Tommy’s lives again. The only thing we never fought about was the dogs. We agreed on joint custody and we agreed to share. When Tommy got out of the hospital himself, he was battling a life-threatening depression and fighting it with all his might. When he visited, I could see the strong bond he had developed had not changed between him and Senny. And again, Governor, now from the grave, asked me to be brave one more time and do the right thing for Mamma Nan, Tommy -- still the love of my life, and for Senny. “If I am the Animal Lover I claim to be then doing what is best for the dog” I kept hearing, “not what is best for you, Wendy”. And so as it was I sent Senator to live full time with his Daddy to help him save his Daddy’s life, just as Governor had saved my life. It was my time to “step up and pass it forward”.

This was so painful not because I would not have my Senny living with me, but because I am really all alone now, and I have to deal with the fact Governor is gone and so is that “family era” of Governor. Now, here, I have written it down and shared it. The last and most final step of saying good bye to my best friend -- that most people do not get to have in a lifetime. We were blessed to have two wonderful labs that saved not one life, but two lives. And they wagged their tails all the way along doing it. I cannot write this without saying I LOVE you Momma Nan and thank you for saving my life by getting up and taking me to pick up Governor that Sunday Morning in Santa Fe

It all started when Victoria Vanoffs Black Lab, Governor, passed away on what some say could “only happen in Hollywood.” It happened on Halloween. Anyone who knew them knew he was the pride and joy of the Vanoff family. Although the couple is going through a divorce, they have joint custody of the dog. With the loss of the leader of their animal pack, their ‘second in command,’ Senator, steps up, although he never feels quite right in this position. After six months of grieving and the finally healing, Victoria convinces her husband, Nick Vanoff, to get another puppy. The problems began when she had taken in her sister’s dog, a Golden-doodle, something her husband refers to as a “1940’s pilot who still has his goggles on.” He was a good dog, but not a pure breed Labrador, what they had always had and wanted. That is, until they met Prince Salmon Gomez. He changed their lives forever.

Earthquake Alert Not Again

Emergency Preparedness - natural or man made disaster planning for pets!

Living here in Los Angeles, California we are used to Mother Nature’s little surprises! During the worst fire storms in the history of California, I was about eight miles away from the nearest one and the boys and I were ready and packed, just in case we had to leave. Just last week on July 6 we had another 5.6 earthquake lucky for the Boys and myself we were at the Boys daddy's home and did not feel it ,yet again it reminded me I must get ready because they no longer tell us if and when the BIG ONE HITS!
They now tell us "GET READY BECAUSE IT CAN HIT ANY DAY!!"

But what about you? Are you ready in case of a disaster, whether natural or man made? No matter where you live, it is always best to have a plan and know what to do in an emergency.

THE SINGLE BEST TIP I MAY OFFER ANY OF MY FRIENDS OR CLIENTS IT TO HAVE A PLAN!
THEN PRACTICE IT!
Now this may sound funny and I do not by any means say do this all the time - What I am saying is to sit down and map out how you will get out in case of a fire , flood or the Big One Earthquake.
Then make sure all family members know the plan make sure you have supplies , your batteries are in good shape change them once a year and then if you are able to practice a fire drill with your younger Children and dogs, cats any other pets you may have this would be a good time to teach your children to STOP ,DROP and ROLL.

Earthquake Supplies

In the case of an earthquake (like those here in California), you should have at least seven days of supplies and food for you and your pets. Some of my sources even suggest a two to three week supply.

Disaster Kit

As part of your overall family disaster plan, you should also include a disaster kit for your animals. Your kit should include:

• Leashes for all the family pets that can be leashed.

• A health record for your pet, which should include:

a) Your pet’s vaccination history

b) Your vet’s phone number and address

c) Any other pertinent information on any medical problems your pet may have

d) Sufficient medications for your pet for at least a week - making sure to rotate the medicine so it doesn’t expire from age.

e) A prescription for additional medicines, just in case you have to go to another town and cannot get to your vet’s office.

• Enough food and water for seven days for your animals. (As a frame of reference, have a gallon of water for a medium sized dog, and about a quart per day for small dogs and cats.) Food should be stored in watertight containers and should be rotated also to keep it fresh.

• Carriers for your animals, which should be readily accessible.

• Recent photographs of all your pets in the kit. This helps shelters identify them if they become lost and happen to be picked up by animal control.

• A list of friends, veterinarians and kennels where your pets can stay during a disaster.

• First aid kit, blankets, towels, muzzles for an emergency, and a manual can opener.

• Food and water bowls for your pets.

• A pooper scooper and plastic bags for pet waste.

• A battery operated radio, in case of a power outage, or you are somewhere without electricity.

• Batteries

• Gloves: rubber and leather work gloves

• Rope, waterproof nylon in 12 foot lengths

• Bungee cords

• Candles

• Pet wipes

• Liquid soap

• Paper filter masks

• Paper cups and plates

• Disposable camera

• Candles and matches in a zip-lock bag

• Box of zip-lock bags

• Tape, moving tape, electrical tape: in case you have to make posters

• Permanent marker

• Silver thermal blanket (you can get at a camping store)

• Kaopectate

• Roll of plastic for water barrier, in case of sleeping on ground

• I even have a battery powered television/radio for getting emergency information.

Store all their supplies in a plastic tub near the door, or find a water proof large bag on wheels in which anyone in the family can easily move along with them.

Identification

• Make sure your dog has a collar and an identification tag with their name, your name and phone number on it. Include the phone number of a relative who is out-of-state, who can be contacted in case your phone line is out.

• Consider having your pet permanently identified with a tattoo or microchip.

Lost Pets

• If your pet becomes lost, periodically check with your out-of-state relative in case they get any news from any authorities who may have found your pet and called them.

• Post pictures and/or flyer's

• Constantly check with all shelters within a twenty mile radius.

Vehicles

• Keep your gas tank at least half full and remember to evacuate early and take your pets with you.

• If you have larger animals, make sure your trailer is in good condition and stocked with their appropriate food needs.

Weather

• After a rainstorm, make sure to empty all containers where water may have collected; so they don’t become stagnant and become a breeding place for mosquitoes or any bacteria or protozoa that could cause your pet to become ill.

It wasn’t until the earthquake of 1994 that I learned the hard way to be prepared. When the earthquake hit at 4:00 am we were safe. The dogs knew ahead of time and had run out of the bedroom to hide under the table. We did not have power or water for three days, but lucky for me, there was a small local market next to my house. But I learned a great lesson: to be ready at all times, and I have had my emergency kit from that time on. I hope this helps you to be ready now and not to learn the way I had to.

Maggie came into my life 10 years ago and showed the remarkable ability to detect my seizures from the beginning. With a little training, she became a master at her job. Since then, she has been my constant companion and soul mate. Even though my seizures are largely under control now, she has given me the blessing of being able to live a very productive life. At only 9 lbs., she is the most intelligent dog I have ever been around and can not only detect seizures but mood changes. But sadly, I found out that Maggie now has heart disease. The American Kennel Club has set up a program (it’s been running since the dark ages, also known as 1989) to not only teach dogs good manners in the home, but how to be a great and polite member of society. Even better, it helps strengthen the bond between owner and dog, and that’s always a good thing.

The Canine Good Citizen program is a great way to lay the foundations for further training and even give your dog the skills to move into all kinds of fun dog competitions and activities like agility and tracking.

WHAT: History in the making! After meeting on Facebook and Skype this past year, Sparkles and Dayna travel from Arkansas to meet Barbara and Frankie at their home in Wisconsin. They are coming together for this first time ever event to help children stay safe in case of a fire, and to encourage children to be of service by helping those with special needs. They will first present in person (and dog!) to elementary students at Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah Elementary School. They will sign books and pose for photos. They will then present via webcam and the technology of Skype from Barbara’s home in Elkhart Lake to Karen Keys, teacher librarian, and students from a elementary school in western Canada.

WHEN: 10:30 a.m. and 1:00pm, April 9th, 2010

WHERE: Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah Elementary School at 10:30am followed by 1:00pm presentation via Skype from Barbara and Frankie’s home in Elkhart Lake.

WHY: As children follow the adventures of Sparkles, they learn valuable fire safety tips enabling them and their families to keep safe. These tips include recognizing the firefighter as a helper and friend, knowing the sound and purpose of a smoke alarm, learning how to crawl low under smoke, and understanding the importance of practicing a home fire drill using an escape map. Also as children follow the adventures of Frankie, they learn how to be positive when faced with any challenge. They learn despite a challenge they can be of service and help out in their communities. Along with Sparkles, Frankie will encourage children to be aware of those with special needs in the event of a fire to help them stay safe as well.

VISUALS: Sparkles, Dayna, Frankie, and Barbara will show:

· How Sparkles teaches children to get low and go in case of a fire
· How to get low and go to your outside meeting place
· Knowing the sound and importance of smoke alarms
· The importance of being of service and helping those with physical challenges stay safe.
· Sparkles and Dayna’s book “Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog.”

Spring is a great time to check all the smoke alarms around your home. Once you know they are working here is how to up keep them.
Make sure that you keep them in working order, smoke alarms will help to keep you and your pet safe.

7. Test your smoke alarm(s) once a month and change the battery at least two times a year.

8. Keep you smoke alarm in top working order by cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner.

9. Be safe when testing your smoke alarm. Use a broom handle to test those hard to reach smoke alarms.

Canine Friends Visit via Skype to Make History

Author Barbara Techel and her paralyzed dog, Frankie, along with Author Firefighter Dayna Hilton and her dog, Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog, came together today via the internet to educate children about disabilities and fire safety.

Clarksville, AR- Two educators of the four-legged variety from different parts of the country, came together today to share fire safety with the children of Clarksville Primary School.

The first presentation of its kind in the country, Frankie, the Walk ‘N Roll Dog from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog from Clarksville, Arkansas, along with a little support from their human friends, children's authors, Barbara Techel and Firefighter Dayna Hilton, participated in this historic event. The four participated in a Skype visit, sharing the importance of fire safety and encouraging children who may have family or friends with physical challenges to help them have a plan, among other fire safety messages, so they and their families and friends can help stay safe from fire.

500 plus children sat glued to their seats as they listened intently as Frankie and Barbara shared their story of inspiration and hope. The students clapped and cheered loudly when Frankie and Sparkles met virtually for the first time. Kathy Howell, library media specialist for the school, was not sure initially how the visit via Skype would go as the school had never participated in one before. Excited about the end result, Howell stated, “The presentation was tremendous, and the excitement from the children continued throughout the day.”

“It was cool watching Frankie and Sparkles make history,” said one six year old student.

With the help of their new four-legged friends, Frankie and Sparkles, the children of Clarksville Primary School now have the tools necessary to stay safe, be positive, and keep on rolling.

History of Frankie and Sparkles’ first Skype visit:
Techel, one of the pioneers of Skype author visits, met Hilton over Facebook and the two developed a unique fire safety program for schools, with a little help from Frankie and Sparkles. The two plan to bring Sparkles and Frankie together again with their messages in future Skype visits, so more children across the country will benefit.

About Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Dog:
Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Dog, is a dachshund who suffered a debilitating spinal injury and now walks with the aid of a doggie wheelchair. For the past two years, Frankie has been helping children of all ages realize that their challenges can be overcome by having a positive attitude, and despite these challenges, they can be a contributing member of society in their own unique way. Frankie is the mascot for National Disabled Pets Day and is the 2009 Wisconsin Pet Hall of Fame Companion Dog. Frankie’s motto is, “Always be positive, make a difference, and keep on rolling!”

Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog, a Dalmatian who was rescued from a home with 62 other dogs, travels across the country with Firefighter Dayna educating children and their caregivers about fire safety. Very Strange, But TRUE

Hello,

I must tell you what happened this morning, no sooner had I finished my scrum delicious breakfast, something mum had made me as treat for being so, so good last night when Tom and some of his friends came over for a bit of a party, you know how humans can be at times. I must admit I was surprised when someone split a drink on mum’s nice new carpet; mum just laughed and poured another glass of wine, now if that had been me! and I had lets say a small accident and made a very little puddle on the carpet mum would have sent me straight to bed without my BONE….. Gomez who you all know by now is my cousin was unable to come over because his mum and dad where also entertaining which really means a party. So unfortunately I had no one to play with, so mum said for an extra special treat for being so good she would make me something really special for breakfast and WOW mum was right, it sure was extra special. Now back to what mum said this morning and I know your going to think this very strange but if I put a small ship filled with all my treasured possessions and yes that does include my new purple ball, just inside my dog house, facing inward towards my rug then this will help bring everything I need for my coming adventures. I told you it will sound really strange but think about it before you judge it……mum has always been right before. Now just got to find a ship that will fit…….Mum can we go for a walk, past the marina…that should do the trick.

VERY Exciting News from my Mums Special Friend

Time for my bone and then to bed....but before I go I wanted to let you in on a great news story from a very special friend of my mum, mike.

Our World

Every year I ask just like many of us do…… what can I, one person do to make a difference?

This year I’ve decided to do something about it, I’m going to make that difference. I will show that just one person with the help and support of all the people who are reading this, their family and friends that in fact together working as a team we can and will make that difference, so here goes…..

Yes, we all know that currently the world over is experiencing economic hardship – more commonly known to you and I as the “Credit Crunch” and not to mention the severity of our Winter weather but these harsh times will end and it’s inevitable that the future will become brighter and these past turbulent years will be written into our history!

The future of “Our World” is in the hands of our Children it is our Children who will care for us as we grow older, it is our Children who will write our laws and bring prosperity and freedom to our lands, but lets not forget there are many children out there in fact millions who need our help, help in helping them to gain the knowledge and understanding of “Our World” a world which is fast becoming as one, thanks to our modern day science and technologies. Who would have thought as little as 20 years ago or even 10, maybe 5 years that today you and I could see and play games with our friends living thousands of miles away in America, China etc.. from our living room in our own homes or from the airplane which can take us around “Our World” in a matter of a single day! I want to use this technology to reach out to everyone and help bring together the people of our world, people who can and will help make that difference to those who need it the most, our Children.

There are Children who do not have the same opportunities that our children may have, they do not enjoy the same comforts as we may have and most of all they may not have the essentials of food, shelter and basic education which we all take so much for granted. So this brings me to my one-wish aim. I want to raise £1,000,000 ($1,500,000) to start a building program to build a school for the less privileged Children in as many continents of “Our World” as possible starting in Africa, then on to the America’s, Asia and more… I would like to equip these schools with the modern technologies that will help the Children achieve their own goals, which in turn will lead to a better world for everyone no matter of their race, colour or creed and bring unity to all!

I am certainly under no illusion, this will be a mammoth undertaking but all I can say I will certainly give it my best as I believe with all your help, advice and working closely as a team we will and can achieve this and more for the benefit of the less privileged Children of “Our World” our future!

Tomorrow is not a guarantee for anyone, but if I’m lucky enough to be here then let me make a difference, no matter how small that difference may be. Always remember one thing, life is a gift and is for living, live it to its fullest everyday! I believe I am who I am because of everyone, not just because of who I am.

Expressing the Bladder of a Paralyzed Dog

Frankie, the Walk 'N Roll Dog here....Ok, so I know, talking about our bodily functions can be kinda gross... but, hey, we all gotta do it, right? And since I happen to be a paralyzed dog, I need a little help on that end (pun intended!)

But here is your chance to help spread a positive message by sharing this video! Now that is a good thing, right? When I first became paralyzed my poor mom had a hard time figuring out when I had to go... so we had lots of messes, well, err, I had lots of messes. But with a little practice, my mom became a pro at helping me go to the bathroom. And you know what? I love her very much for that. You see, sadly, many dogs are put to sleep when they become paralyzed. Their mom and dad are afraid they may not be able to learn how to help their paralyzed dog go to the bathroom.

So my mom and I were very excited when we were asked to be a part of this very well done video on showing others how easy it really can be... you just have to practice... and isn't that like all things in life? We learn by practicing.

So here is where you can help!! Share this video with your local vets, with other pet parents, with your local humane societies, etc. Arf-a-roo! Thanks for your help!!

Wheely Willy Parapalegic Celebrity Dog Passes Away at Age 22

Frankie (the walk n roll dog) and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to Deborah Turner and the passing of her celebrity dog, Wheely Willy, the tiny parapeligic dog that brought immense hope and joy to the world. My heart aches greatly for Deborah, but I know Willy is safely in God's arms and an angel like no other. God Bless Willy and Deborah for all their amazing work. Rest in peace little one.

Wheely Willy, the tiny paraplegic dog passed away in his sleep this morning, December 22, 2009. Best known for his inspirational story of hope and courage, this 22 year old miracle lived one of the most amazing lives of any companion animal. Many years ago Willy was abandoned in a cardboard box having sustained serious back and neck injuries. His story was chronicled on many television shows including Animal Planet. Today, the facts surrounding Willy's birth, prior life, and injuries, still remain a mystery. Following his adoption by Deborah, and acclimation to his new family of rescued animals, Willy found ways of conquering his challenges, becoming a symbol for many, of strength and willpower. He became enabled by a K-9 Cart, which changed his life, allowing him to get around on his own by propelling himself with his front legs. His humanitarian endeavors of comforting patients of every age in hospitals, and giving people hope for their own lives gave him notoriety. The small dog's many visits to convalescent homes, civic groups and schools turned him into a teaching tool for children and adults that our actions are very important, because our lives are what we make of it.
